Welcome to La Prima Luce of Atelier Caravaggio.
My debut collection entitled La Prima Luce, plays on the Italian expression dare alla luce, which means to give birth or more literally, to give to the light.
Since becoming a mother in September of 2024, I now understand both the indescribable joy and weight that comes with bringing a sweet, precious soul into this world. Although there is truly nothing that can compare to this feeling, I have a much more real and deep desire to be intentional and nurturing of this brand which carries the name of my family.
This first collection is brought to the light after dreaming of its existence as a way to blend both sartorial technique and my adoration of fine art. This label offers pieces designed to be cherished as modern heirlooms, worthy of being passed to the next generation, in the same way I quietly save my wedding dress and veil to be offered one day to my daughter, Capri.
Forever inspired by the the renaissance painter Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, more commonly known as Caravaggio, I treasure each veil we create as a masterpiece of it's own. All thirteen veils have been individually photographed to capture their true essence and light, not dissimilar from the art created by Caravaggio himself - renowned for his use of chiaroscuro, a technique used to exaggerate the contrast between light and darkness in his paintings.
My wish for you, as you read this diary of mine, is that the dedication and artistry behind our veils is genuinely felt when you wear yours — not simply seen and admired in a way that recognizes outward beauty, but experienced in a way that stays with you throughout your lifelong marriage.
